The first day after the monthly shop.

Is going to be my last day on Earth if I keep this up.

After almost two hours in the grocery store and a cart so heavy I could barely turn it into the cashwrap lane, we have a full kitchen again. Brian had to work, but had requested a bunch of specific spices and ingredients we've not bought before. That ended up being a trying experience, but I managed to get it all.

Today for lunch, I packed the implements of a caprese salad, as well as a green salad topped with tuna. And because I was feeling very smug about my healthy diet, we had chili cheese dogs for dinner. :)

The three most elusive items in the whole damn store.

As it turns out, I've never seen or used popcorn salt before. While we waited for the chili to simmer, B explained to me (with examples) that the kosher salt we use comes in flat granules, and table salt granules are cubic. But this salt is ideal for seasoning foods just before serving because it is extremely fine powder and thus will stick to the food better than the other shapes.

And Ac'cent is just plain MSG. But that's interesting because it was invented to serve as an additive to foods so they have the flavor kombu does naturally. We of course also have kombu in the cupboard, so a side-by-side tasting was in order. Someone come help us eat all this.
