Still here, in a few pieces.

Help me get them all to sleep at the same time.

I've been absent from here for a few days, only because work has been taking up all my time and energy. The start of the week featured a pretty heavy pace but not anything unusual, really. Then Tuesday I worked until 10:30, and Wednesday (minus an hour for a haircut) until 11:45.

I'd love to say that there then was a smaller to-do list, but it hasn't stopped. I did express my concern that at this rate burnout was more likely than catching up. Can't say whether it'll have any impact, but 1) it is true and 2) I do feel better for having said so.

Anyhow, a three-day weekend is coming up! And I do intend to take the time off that is coming to me. Hopefully this means more updates here.

What do you do for a living? Working that late seems rather excessive.

Urban planner, specifically for a consulting firm with public sector clients. I don't anticipate the volume is going to continue to be this nutty ... but if it did, I feel the job market here is quite strong.

I shudder to think about working 50 hours a week. I don't know how you folks do it.

A "typical" work week for us is 37.5 hours, so this has not been all that common in the 2.5 years I've been there. Hoping it doesn't become that way ...

I hear you, but no 3 day weekend for us. We were lucky to got Christmas Day off and for me 10:30 would be an early night most days of the week, and it's not a temporary thing. They kept pushing for more and more and more billable hours and from what I heard, they are about to announce even a higher minimums they expect everyone to meet and if we didn't meet them, we have to take it as vacation time. I'm not sure if that's even legal, but rather than stick around to figure it out I decided I'd had enough. I'm burned out. Good luck with your situation. Remember life is short and your health is important.

I saw your post. Glad you are making the best choice for you!

As for us, I don't anticipate the volume to continue to be this high. But I know one factor that'd make it more tolerable is a higher salary, because I'd be able to hire someone to clean my house, eat out more instead of cooking for myself, and so on. I'm not saying that would be pleasant per se, but it would provide more time to focus on work if I wanted to go that route.
