Fire up a plane, Delta.

On my last visit to Michigan in October 2012, I went to a shop in Detroit owned by the siblings of a grad school classmate. I bought, among other things, a notebook with a historical map of the city on the cover. I still have the notebook, and mainly use it for grocery lists. But on the first page, I started a list of various events (mostly annual) that I wanted to experience, ranging from music festivals to places that happen to have particularly good holiday celebrations (e.g. Mardi Gras in Louisiana).

I started the list at a time when I was transitioning from travel plans constrained by limited funds and time, as well as where friends or relatives happened to be living to a more flexible approach. In the couple of years since I started that list, I've taken some interesting trips, including three trips to Rehoboth, the little Delaware beach town that could. And, notably, I have made some headway on my goal to visit all 50 state capitols, enjoying some places* that I would probably not otherwise see.

I kept that list going for a while, and it is now a reasonably impressive feat to tackle. It is now also time to tackle it.

* To satisfy your curiosity, I have visited in order:
  • Columbus, OH
  • Santa Fe, NM
  • Raleigh, NC
  • Lansing, MI
  • Carson City, NV
  • Atlanta, GA
  • Columbia, SC

Fun! It can be fun to have a list of travel goals, but on the other hand I'm not positive how interested I am in visiting Wyoming and South Dakota. :)
