Does it still count as service to your country if they pay you $40/day?

music: Two Door Cinema Club "Handshake (Amtrac Remix)"

Plus $7 for transportation.

I've been called up for jury duty for the week after I return from vacation. My co-worker (who has a law degree but isn't practicing currently) was confused by the summons because it doesn't say "petit" or "grand" but rather "special trial." And it's for a federal court. For all I know this could be some enormously high-profile trial that would take the entire fall, which ... doesn't sound like something I'd enjoy being involved in.

I doubt I'd be selected, but who knows. If I were, I'd still get my full paycheck from work plus the daily $47, so I suppose that's a bonus. Not that that explains how I would actually get work done during such a thing. We'll find out on August 19th.

I have no idea how it works in Canada, but down here I didn't know anyone ever got anything but a summons.

i *think* it's just a summons. i'm registered as a voter, so all of that info gets carried over for courts etc. maybe one day, but i best not put it on my bucket list, just in case...
