Can someone at least pour snow into it?

Bit of a crazy week. Since I last posted:

  • Sunday: Went to Kevin's post-holiday party, where we discovered you can fit 50 people, a roast lamb, and two vats of eggnog in a one-bedroom condo. I also met a New Mexican from Española!
  • Monday: Had dinner at Kevin's bar at Annie's with Brian. Afterward he convinced us to go to Cobalt for a drink. When we arrived the bartenders had invented a $4 LIT special, which may as well be free as far as liquor prices go (I didn't order any).
  • Tuesday: Julie S. texted that Scott P. (both were Michigan classmates) was in town for the TRB conference, so we all had beers at Churchkey. I dispatched Scott to locate the nerdiest person there, a man rumored to travel around the country being the first person to drive on newly opened high-occupancy vehicles lanes. :) Also we resolved that we need better cubicle neighbors at our respective offices.
  • Wednesday: I had a chance to do something a little off the beaten path: a tour of National Public Radio's new headquarters, which will officially open in March. The organization and their architects and contractors did a pretty creative job of opening the floors of a warehouse built in 1927 into an expansive newsroom, and added a seven-story office tower next to it that more or less matches. I should write an entry on my professional blog, but I'm clearly too busy drinking for that to happen. Photos are below.
  • Following that I went to Iron Horse to help Brandon celebrate his new job, and ran into old friends/acquaintances include Dan from DOT, Mikey, and Brad. Tons of fun!
  • Thursday: Much-needed grocery shopping and recovery day
  • Friday: Well, I didn't mention it above but I also worked all week. Culminating in today, in which I had several projects to wrap up and stayed much later than I wanted. But when I got home, Brian had coq au vin ready to go and that was super nice!

There is truly no rest for the wicked, though, because my mom and aunt arrive tomorrow afternoon and stay through Wednesday. We are going to the Inauguration. :)

And this ... is NPR!

Exterior view. The original warehouse is barely visible on the far left.

Enormous two-level newsroom

Even the gods of public radio only have 10' x 12' offices.

I didn't even know NPR was getting a new space. Love the pix, thanks.

I didn't know either until I heard about this event. The folks there said their current HQ is too small and outdated given that they produce a lot of web content now. If they had to level up, I'd say they did a great job.
