Something of a holiday recap.

At least until I run out of time.

Well, we did manage to fit a lot into our Christmas trip to New Mexico. Some highlights:

  • Dec 23: Ate an uninspiring lunch at Little Anita's, then visited the Very Large Array, then drove to my parents' house. 450+ miles of driving between 2:00 and 10:00 pm.
  • Dec 24: Had Christmas Eve dinner of posole and chile, wrapped my gifts at the last minute while their recipients were not in the house.
  • Dec 25: Slept a little too late, woke up to full-on kitchen madness. We had turkey, ham, mashed taters, gravy, chile, salad, and more with the kids and Brian, then opened gifts. By 2:30 we packed up and all went to Jamie's house in Pecos, where her house was also filled with just-opened gifts and leftover food. Visited with the many cousins there and had some quality drinks with Jamie and Erica, then came back home.
  • Dec 26: Took Brian for a drive to Mora to see mountains with snow, also drove aimlessly around town to see what has changed (not much). That evening we went to Dick's with Stacy, had a few drinks while watching people fall into the jukebox while trying to choose songs, ran into Anna and Jojo.
  • Dec 27: Visited my old nanny! Lorenza and Pancho still live in the same house, and are generally about the same. In addition to still working in the restaurant, she also makes tiny NFL-themed couches (think doll-size) and dream catchers. While I hope to be healthy enough to still work when in my upper 70s, I certainly hope I don't have to. Anyhow, we then loaded up on New Mexican food products and went to Albuquerque, where we spent quality time at a couple of bars with Chris and his friend Tomas. Finally found some decent nightspots in Burque.
  • Dec 28: Woke up to news of a slightly delayed flight, had a leisurely breakfast at the airport, then flew to ATL reasonably on time. On our ATL-DCA flight I bought a drink with one of mahka42's vouchers and Brian bought one with $ and the flight attendant gave us each extras. Woo.

And that was it! I'll post more photos here and there, because January tends to be a bit dry in that respect.

Don't really know why but the VLA is on my bucket list. Maybe it's not worth the drive.

It was a great experience. Just keep in mind that it was designed to be in an isolated place: 100+ miles from Albuquerque and there really isn't anything else to see on the way.
