Maybe I'll look for an isthmus on my next vacation.

Detroit Public Library, all lit up

As I mentioned, I was in Detroit and Ann Arbor last weekend for a short vacation, my first of any kind since June. Ang picked me up from DTW Friday night and we had drinks and cheese and meat plates around the corner from her apartment; I'm quite in love with her hipster neighborhood. We called it a night early, as she had to teach in the morning. Then I was able to explore in more depth on Saturday: brunch at Bronx Bar and an afternoon at the DIA. Huge, amazing ridiculously engaging museum.

That afternoon Ang returned from her teaching and we regrouped, then had dinner at Mercury Burger. It's in an amazingly non-hip (or even very occupied) neighborhood, but it didn't matter because driving is king. Also the food was grand and our server was pretty ok with our switching tables with some older folks that were assigned a much too small one. From there we went back to Midtown, met up with Alex D., Bo B., and their lady friends and a whiskey flask and went out to this light festival. I wasn't sure what to expect from it but it turned out to be an enormous festival with several thousand attendees. After walking around to find several installations, we watched a film projected inside a church, then went to an enormous party being held at the Contemporary Art Museum. And there we stayed for several hours, with cheap drinks, strange but good music, and a super enthusiastic intergenerational crowd. I'll pick up from there tomorrow.

Now, some photos.

With Ang at Dlectricity. I'm wearing her scarf and mittens.

One of many light installations that are lovely but don't photograph well

Sounds like a great time! I guess I won't tease you about vacationing in Michigan anymore. :)
