Letters only opened after takeoff. And a toast "to no babies!"

Observing people and meeting new ones was one of the highlights of my travels over December and January. Two highlights:

On my flight from Atlanta to El Paso, I was seated in Row 1 next to a very young Army guy headed, I assume, to Fort Bliss. He said not one word but helped me reattach my magazine pocket to the bulkhead when I stuffed too much crap in it and it came unbuttoned from the wall. After we took off he pulled an envelope from a pocket and ripped it open. Handwritten letter in pencil. My flight attendant there and on the next segment was named Asia. She was quite concerned about making sure that all of us were prepared for holiday family situations, not just delivering bloody marys. I feel as though I should write her an update on Dad.

At a post-Christmas potluck situation in DC, we showed up early to get some cooking done. The host left to pick up an enormous order of fried chicken. While he was out, various people showed up including a friend of his girlfriend none of us had met before. Cooking and TV watching happened, and eventually a round of Jameson shots. For a too-long second with glasses raised over the kitchen counter, no toast came to mind. Meanwhile she was digging through her purse with her other hand, and produced a single pill. "I forgot to take my birth control." Then it's obvious: "To no babies!"

Glad you enjoyed. These happen all the time but I notice them especially when I travel.
