mood: sillyready for maple-flavored foods
music: Or whatever it is that Canadians eat.

First: Canada.

I intend to also explore it during the day, when people are around.

On Friday, I'm flying to Toronto for Fall Break, staying through Tuesday afternoon. This is not a vacation, but part of a class on walkable urbanism. This guy, who is an adjunct instructor in our program, is taking us around various neighborhoods of Toronto, and also to meet this guy. It could get ugly (most of us that are going think he's a hack, but still. He's famous for writing about cities). Reports forthcoming.

I can almost here the prostitutes, pimps, crack heads, winos, and hucksters. Streets covered with hipsters on skateboards and businessmen negotiating for a date. Ah, the urban nightlife.

Did they mean to turn the street into a speed tunnel with all those poles? Visual barriers to pedestrians + straight, wide road = not good for controlling speed. Ugh.

PS: If you haven't seen it yet, I think you'd enjoying some of the planning perspectives expressed over at Greater Greater Washington, both in the posts and the comments.

No idea; I've never been but was just looking for striking pictures of the city. I guess I'll be able to assess this in person tomorrow!

Yes, I've been reading GGW for a while. One of my co-workers at my internship writes (apropos to your above comment) the entries on pedestrians and cyclists struck every week.
