I still watch them, at a rate of two every stress-induced near-freakout.

While in Durham for Fall Break, I went out with a group to see Where the Wild Things Are on opening night. I loved loved loved the soundtrack, performed by Karen O, but I have to temper that comment with the fact that the Yeah Yeah Yeahs literally sang me across the country as I moved to Michigan. Anyhow, I've since also looked back at the book and I'm comfortable with how the story was fleshed out for film; however, that is such a story of loneliness, from the time when Max's family doesn't get him to when the monsters don't fully bring him into their orbit and back. And honest question: does anyone understand what was the deal with the owls? A-.

I also watched my latest Netflix, Sunset Boulevard, which I am still dreaming about two weeks later. What happens when you're a formerly bright star, still with lots of money but no influence? Well, maybe not this, but I still enjoyed this immensely. Edith Head's wardrobe work and the large number of outdoor scenes gave the movie exactly the right context: tangible and glittery, but still a confusing masquerade at the end of the day. A+.
