But I'd love to not tote around a Kleenex box with me from room to room.

Despite having a cold right now, today wasn't so bad. I'm finally getting the rest that I desperately needed but couldn't get during the mattress-hopping and luggage-toting that was Christmas. Basically, I spent the day reading and watching stuff online, blowing my nose repeatedly, and getting a tiny bit accomplished. My only venture outside the house was to two post offices to buy stamps and mail a packet of stuff to another grad school. If USPS actually maintained their vending machines properly, I would only have needed to visit one, but oh well. The South Square Post Office has a really cool new facade, so that was nice to see. And yes, I'm officially lame.

I also watched Capote tonight, my latest Netflix. I was happy to see Catherine Keener (who played Harper Lee! Writers from Alabama FTW!) in there, and Philip Seymour Hoffman was quite good so I don't dispute that he won an Oscar for the role, but I don't feel like the film went anywhere. We started with the big crime to be turned into the Novel of the Century and ended with ... the big crime that had been turned into the Novel of the Century. I'm not sure if the movie was being faithful to the book, but I felt like Capote's partner (also a writer) and Harper Lee could have added further dimensions to a story that felt lacking. B-.

This reminds me that I still want to list the movies I watched (an impressive number, though most were old) and the books I read (a paltry number) in 2008 on this blog. Maybe I'll do that tomorrow, assuming my recovery continues at this pace. I also need to prepare something for Caroline and finish another magical grad school app. No, I'm not done with those yet. Probably will be another two weeks. And I'm looking forward to going back to the gym for a very light workout, just to work off the cabin fever of the last couple of days.

Finally, some links. First, this person is following my work Twitter account. I had to read the username about six times before I figured out it wasn't a tasteless joke. Paging Tobias Funke. Second, props to akishmo for finding this clip of Kathy Griffin and Anderson Cooper hosting New Years' Eve for CNN (NSFW language). She is out of control and I love her. There are also other clips of her talking about making $200,000 for the gig and making Anderson Cooper giggle like a little girl that are a ton of fun. Who is Ryan Seacrest again?
