My collar spontaneously popped up while I was driving.

mood: tiredtired
music: None, but I really enjoy looking at the Auto Complete options in this box.

Does this mean I'm preppie at heart?

So, this weekend. I had loads of free time and could have done nothing, but I wasn't happy about the state of my apartment, so I undertook a massive rearrangement. Basically, Sam had moved a bunch of the furniture from his Chapel Hill house over here because someone new is moving in there for the summer, and he couldn't take it to Boston, which was fine. But my bedroom and the dungeon were overstuffed, so I spent Saturday taking corrective action. Well, after I went to a few yard sales and decided that I had enough crap and didn't need to buy any more from other people.

The result of my labors is that I moved all the furniture around to vacuum the carpets, set up Sam's bed and dresser as my own, moved my old bed to the dungeon, and stuffed the futon mattress that was in there under the new huge bed so it is invisible. And I'm probably going to throw my old dresser away; it is literally falling apart and I don't even think Goodwill would accept it. I also set up Sam's desk in the corner of the living room and his couch over near the dining area. And I used his end tables! One in the bedroom and one in the living room. I've never had end tables, but was using boxes covered with sheets and tapestries instead. Yes, I'm classy. And I put one of his lamps in the bedroom and a lamp I just got on Freecycle in the living room.

Overall, everything looks much better; if the living/dining room looked a bit too empty before, it might now be a bit too full, but it certainly looks more grown-up, and the lighting is better. I'm shocked by what a difference this made. The only thing I still need to do is fix up the dungeon more; my boxspring and mattress are leaning against a wall. I'm going to move the boxes out of there, vacuum the carpet, and then set it up to look more inviting. I can probably do it in one evening. \o/

The other highlight of the weekend was going to a barbecue at the house of one of Emily's colleague's in Mebane. After a random household adventure at her house, we bought potato salad at Whole Foods and set off for the BBQ. And Mebane is farther away than I thought; also, the house is in this massive golf community that goes on forever. Anyway, the BBQ was sooper fun; I saw Gina (who was my tour guide boss waaay back in the day; there are stories about her somewhere in my LJ) and Jen, whom I provided an introductory tour for when she was first hired, also way back in the day, and Pam. And I met various other folks and their children that were in attendance, and we ate burgers, hot dogs, homemade macaroni and cheese, coleslaw, fruit, etc. in their super nice backyard. SUMMER IS AMAZING.

Now it's back to the work week; I got plenty accomplished today. Here's hoping that it was enough, because I will be re-immersing my boss for the next two days (she's just back from a month in Italy) and then I'm off at two conferences for an entire week. The only highlight was the Employee Appreciation Lunch for all of Duke; I went with Erin and Robin G., and we sat with some of the people that Robin used to work with in a previous job. Lunch for several thousand people is a pretty intense undertaking, let me tell you.

Finally, this is way delayed, but welcome to shadedlight, the newest addition to my friends list!

Working on it. I have to prepare for my trip and have a couple of crazy days coming up at work, so it might not happen until I return. I don't know how you balance all of this traveling you do with everything else. :P

Hi! Nice to meet you online. I'll be getting the photos up after my trip to California, most likely.
