But at least this time, the answer lies in going to the mall.

Last night Sam and I had dinner at his house and then were watching Dead Man Walking with Cara. I'm surprised that none of us had seen it as of yet, and in general I thought it was pretty good. The ending needed some work, though, and I was disappointed that we didn't get to see more about the lives of nuns. Shuddup, we didn't have any in the Catholic Church I grew up in. B+.

Anyway, the point of this story is that I was on my laptop during the movie, perusing the list of new fellows inducted to the American Academy of Arts & Sciences this year, because one of our HASTAC folks was among the lucky this time around. And all of a sudden, it froze and I didn't have a cursor anymore. And when I rebooted, it would only give me the flashing file folder with a question mark inside. Boooo.

This morning I called AppleCare and troubleshot for a while, then went home to get the startup disk and try that. I haven't gotten very far, though, so I've made my appointment with a Genius at the mall at 7:20 p.m. tonight, and I will be bringing Sam because he's done with final exams and the mall is awesome.

Other minor crises of the moment: One of the screws holding my sunglasses together fell out as I pulled them out of my desk drawer to run home. I crawled around the carpet looking for it for a while, then gave up and brought a magnet back with me to find it that way. Amazingly I found the screw and was able to put everything back together with the help of Margaret, who had tiny screwdrivers.

Also, Sam is awesome and is looking for a place for us to live in Chapel Hill. I would be having aneurysms right now if I had to spearhead that on top of work and all my stuff breaking. But! At least it is a quiet day at work. We are going to meet with a job candidate at a coffee shop in a little while, then I'm peacing out to get to the Apple Store. All in all, things could be worse.
