We do not discriminate between carrots and sticks.

Happy 2017, LJ! I've previously completed this survey a few times during end-of-year introspection, so why not have another whirl at it.

1. What did you do in 2016 that you’d never done before?
I hit some PRs in the gym?

2. Did you keep your new year’s resolutions, and will you make more for next year?
I actually never make any. If I identify something to improve in my life, I set out to do it right away.

3. Did anyone close to you give birth?
Not that I know of!

4. Did anyone close to you die?
No, but sadly one of my mentors from Duke is in hospice so it's very likely that will occur in early 2017. That said, she is a super champ (one of her many jobs was as a patient advocate) and has the whole thing planned the way she wants it. I can't help but admire that.

5. What countries did you visit?
None. Someone force me to renew my passport, stat!

6. What would you like to have in 2017 that you lacked in 2016?
More travel, including making further dents in my state capitols project. Plans are starting to come together on that front.

7. What dates from 2016 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?
  • January 24th - The most recent Snowpocalypse when we ate nachos three ways at American Ice because that was all the food they had.
  • March 3-5th: My trip to NC, where I ate so much and bought nice jeans, while Tyler and Blake generally put up with me throughout. And the highlight of that trip: The Six Plates closing party!
  • March 20th: The year's best brunch, at 1905.
  • April 5-7th: Vacation in the desert!
  • May 11th: Being at Nats Park when Max Scherzer struck out 20 batters!
  • May 22nd: Frances and Matt's epic going away potluck.
  • August 26th: Back at Nats Park for Scherzer Bobblehead Day in honor of the above, and Diamond Club seats too.
  • November 12th: My birthday at Duplex!
  • December 25th: Christmas at Elliott and Stu's house.

8. What was your biggest achievement of the year?
At work: Big Project. It launched December 5th, whereas without me that date would have been never.

9. What was your biggest failure?
I spread myself really thin on social media, in ways that prevented me from even enjoying it sometimes. So I have corrected accordingly.

10. Did you suffer illness or injury?
Thankfully no. I keep getting minor colds, though, which is highly annoying.

11. What was the best thing you bought?
Nothing major in the purchase department. I did donate to worthy causes including the Flint Child Health and Development Fund.

12. Whose behavior merited celebration?
My mentor from Question 4. She is a badass even with organ failure.

13. Whose behavior made you appalled and depressed?
Lots of people on social media.

14. Where did most of your money go?
Rent. Debt payment. I set my pre-tax transit contribution too high so WMATA got a fair chunk that I'm still spending down.

15. What did you get really, really, really excited about?
New books. Sex. Meeting and exceeding fitness goals.

16. What song will always remind you of 2016?
"E-MO-TION" by CRJ!

17. Compared to this time last year, are you: a) happier or sadder? b) thinner or fatter? c) richer or poorer?
I think I'm about the same on all of these. If you count being in less debt as "richer," then I'm that. Hah.

18. What do you wish you’d done more of?
Cooking. Sex. Travel.

19. What do you wish you’d done less of?
Become immersed in work drama. Ultimately there is no payoff and I'll never get that time back.

20. How will you be spending Christmas?
Apparently I'm doing this survey too late. But we were at Elliott and Stu's house eating roast goose, then playing Dutch Blitz until something nutty like 4 a.m.

21. Did you fall in love in 2016?
I've already been. :)

22. How many one-night stands?
Zero.

23. What was your favorite TV program?
Let's say a tie between Stranger Things and Luke Cage.

24. Do you hate anyone now that you didn’t hate this time last year?
Nope.

25. What was the best book you read?
It was a very light book year for me, but The Story of Sushi was surprisingly enlightening.

26. What was your greatest musical discovery?
Not new per se, but the release of new albums from Garbage, Carly Rae Jepsen, and Lady Gaga were on repeat a whole lot, the latter two especially during workouts.

27. What did you want and get?
I mean, I got an annual raise at work. An even 3.0%. And I paid off one student loan, an important milestone that took a lot of planning.

28. What did you want and not get?
To be totally debt-free.

29. What was your favorite film of this year?
Doctor Strange.

30. What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you?
33. And I had various friends meet at Duplex, the bar where I spend a lot of my time anyway.

31. What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?
Better fit between my work portfolio and my interests. But there's more to life than that anyway.

32. How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2016?
The Angie Jordan School of Fashion: "I refuse to wear anything in my size or appropriate for my age."

33. What kept you sane?
Being on top of my work. Regular workouts. Having a supportive boyfriend that's also an amazing cook.

34. Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most?
Oscar Isaac! As a bonus, he won a Golden Globe in 2016.

35. What political issue stirred you the most?
The integrity of our elections. Probably a popular one this year.

36. Who did you miss?
My brothers. My nieces and nephews.

37. Who was the best new person you met?
Don't think I met a ton of new people. But we did hire some great new staff at work.

38. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2016.
Too much of a good thing is wonderful.

39. Quote a song lyric that sums up your year.
Can't think of one at the moment.

40. BONUS QUESTION: What were your best meals of the year?
1) Valentine's Day dinner was epic: ribeye, mashed cauliflower, garlic bread, and French onion soup. And all made at home so we didn't have to fight for square inches of restaurant space on that ridiculous day.
2) The potluck from Question 7 above. By far the best larb gai and bibimbap I've ever had.

41. Other new question: What are you looking forward to in 2017?
The planned travel mentioned up in Question 6. Potentially moving to a new apartment.
