New year, same me.

Suck it, Gregorian calendars.

I am not big on New Year's resolutions or "new leaves" with the change of the calendar. As a grown, independent adult, if there is something I want to change about my life I will pursue that without tying it to a specific date. Still, if you are I am fully supportive of that, and I also do not mind the many new faces that may appear in the gym around this time of year and hope they make it a regular routine if that's what they want.

With that introspection aside, I went to Duplex on the actual New Year's Eve with Jason R., Kevin, Patrick, and Jen. Jessie and Sara were bartending and didn't have a large number of other patrons so we got to chat and riff on the ABC special. Poor Ryan Seacrest needs a night off. I went home around 12:30 and slept well.

Yesterday morning I set off for the gym and did an arm workout. I think my tricep workouts are finally where I want them to be, but OMG I am so sore I can barely lift things over my head. Following that Kevin texted to ask if I wanted to go to Marc C.'s brunch, so I ran to the CVS for quick protein. That should have been quick but the cashier was having much trouble getting the chip card machine to work; I should have just given her cash and ran. Anyhow, then I met up with Kevin, Sara, Jen, Jon Carl, Brett, and Jason and we went to the brunch. Sooooo nice. I wish I had photographed the spread. But as I recall, it included a giant cheese plate, mixed nuts, quiches, pasta salad, and a charcuterie spread. The drinks included bellinis, mimosas, and poinsettias, plus various liquors. And the total guest count was something like 60, including many of the Level One/Cobalt crew that I haven't seen in a while. He really must have put a lot of work into this. We stayed there until almost 5, watching football* and chatting with the many, many attendees.

Later Brett, Jason, and I went to Thai Tanic for dinner curries, then I crawled home. Then in the evening Jason A. and I went to Green Lantern for a couple of drinks. It was kind of stupid crowded, so we didn't last all that long. A most excellent first day of the year even if that is the arbitrary result of some date in the Roman government. Take that, Pope Gregory XIII!

*Last bit of bro football cheering for the year for me: Michigan destroyed Florida in the Citrus Bowl! And I got to watch it on a giant screen. From a team that only won 5 games last year, it was an excellent wrap to the season.

I consider the return of the sun god from the belly of the ice monsters to be quite worth celebrating.

HAHAHAHA Thai Tanic is a great name for a restaurant. "Noodles, straight ahead!"

I gotta admit, New Year resolutions make me glad to have my own power rack and barbells in the basement!
