Joaquin is that guy that RSVPs for your birthday dinner then flakes at the last minute.

We've had almost a full week of overcast conditions and intermittent rain. While I'm not super amused about it, my good raincoat and a new umbrella have helped make it more tolerable. At present it appears the whole storm will miss the East Coast entirely, but there are still bands of heavy rain in the Carolinas. So ... good luck to you if you're in the Carolinas!

I did fit a short workout in this morning, though having basically no breakfast does not lead to much energy to lift heavy things. Lesson learned for the future.

From there it was brunch at Cava Mezze with Brent, Mark, Joe Z., Dan, and their friend Pete, from which I just returned. As it turns out Pete works in a planning-aligned nonprofit so we had a bit of good wonky conversation. But most of the brunch was discussing various drama from the near past and upcoming travel. And while I can't say I enjoy going all the way out to Eastern Market, the presence of much pork belly and perfectly poached eggs didn't hurt.

We were in the Outer Banks of North Carolina and totally relieved to see the storm tack out to sea! They still evacuated Okracoke, so there was a ton of traffic on Highway 12 as people fled the beaches more southerly than Nags Head, but we were safe. South Carolina looks awful!

Very lucky; Hurricane Floyd turned that area into a total wreck.
