Blogging while watching the MTV Movie Awards.

Got to fit a bit of self-loathing into a busy weekend.

B put on the MTV Movie Awards starting an hour ago, and they're ... not great. But I've been obsessively watching awards shows for years now, even when I haven't consumed most of the media being honored. So here we are.

Was a pretty good weekend, and needed coming off the long week. Thursday and Friday were our twice-yearly occasion to lock ourselves and our "peer" companies in a conference center with our federal sponsors and assess how the work is going. I learned a lot, and contributed some too, but was mostly drained by the fast pace and very sharp (in some cases a tad arrogant) participants. We completed that at 3:00 on Friday, leaving me free to pop in the office for a bit of work and a lot of happy hour. I then had a quick workout, met up with Andrew and Mike I. for dinner at Sixth Engine. Still never had a bad meal there.

That evening, we had a lot of orange squeezes at Duplex, given that Mike I.'s fiance (Mike Z.) was out of the country and we could stay out late causing trouble. Saturday I had a long tourist-clogged run in the morning, then stayed away from the Cherry Blossom hordes until after dark. Drove B to work, then met Jason for a few drinks at Green Lantern.

I got a last minute text from Lajuan this morning asking if I had brunch plans. Having none, he and Erin picked me up and we joined a 12-person table at Alero. It was Melisa and her various running partners that had just completed the Cherry Blossom 10 Miler, and were in dire need of carbs (and alcohol). That turned into a two hour-plus event, and dare I say it their "brunch" buffet was good. Quesadillas, spinach enchiladas, runny eggs* and bacon, and unlimited coffee! Now I'm back home and just finished my most recent novel before this awful awards show came on. Definitely feeling more energized and relaxed than I did as of COB Thursday, and the great weather is helping too.

* Confession: I really like those usually runny scrambled eggs that are a common feature of hotel breakfast buffets. I know they come from a carton. Judge if you want; I happily ate three gaint serving spoonfuls today.
