The 90s are coming back.

And a lot of the 2000s, and I may break my laptop in anticipation.

There are a select number of bands that I have been obsessed with for ten or more years. Yeah Yeah Yeahs are without doubt my favorite; Garbage is another*, and I knew from following them on Twitter that they recorded and are releasing another album this year. I went to a YYYs show in Carrboro with two friends in November 2003, and that remains the best live performance I've ever seen. Still remember Karen O sticking the whole microphone in her mouth between verses, and going to a diner afterward and coming down from the high of a super talented live performance and a high-energy crowd. Hilariously this is all I wrote of that evening on this blog. The photos I mention didn't come out; and yes, I was that kid with a (pre-digital) camera strapped to my wrist at the concert venue. Anyhow, every one of their albums is in my regular music rotation.

Anyhow, on their FB page Garbage linked to this list of 2015's most anticipated albums, and I figured I ought to browse it. I knew exactly one artist out of the first 30 (Bombadil), but as I kept clicking through the slideshow more and more bands I liked came up: Joanna Newsom, The Prodigy, Marilyn Manson. By the time I got to the top ten, I was having a mild freakout. Faith No More! Modest Mouse! Bjork! I'm super jazzed that some of my favorites from various points in my life are releasing new music, and hopefully touring? Like the YYY show day, lots of strong memories are associated with some of these artists, but I don't just want them to be nostalgia vehicles. I genuinely do want new and different music from them, and to experience it in different contexts than their prior stuff. So here's to a year of a ton of bomb ass music!

* I don't know how many LJ icons devoted to an artist indicates fandom, but I have two of Shirley Manson with Garbage lyrics. :)

I have heard of some of those bands, but couldn't tell you the name of anything by them.

I guess, because my school years were mostly in the 80s, my musical tastes predate yours?

Well, my brothers are 7 and 13 years older than me, respectively, so I felt like I knew of more 80s music than others my age. But most of them didn't become my favorites.

Big age gaps!

I'm not really a big one for music - I haven't had a clue what's been in the charts for a long time.

i saw the yyy's back in 2008 (maybe it was 2009), and they indeed put on an incredible show. i'm really interested in seeing what the prodigy and garbage come up with. that bjork album was supposed to be out last year... still waiting bjork... but yeah, the heyday of my musical experience is coming out with an encore!

I would wait any amount of time for Bjork to release more music. :D

Thanks for the slide show link. It's cool to see what is expected to come out this year, though it also made me realize how much music is out there that I'm just not familiar with.

I was happy to see Garbage and Bjork on the list, too. Their '90s releases are still the ones I like the best, but I've enjoyed keeping up with them.

There's a huuuuuge amount of music released every year. Unless it is one's livelihood, I don't think it's possible to keep up with everything, or even most of it.

SUCH GOOD MUSIC coming out this year! :D Diffuser's list is practically the same as mine. I can't get enough of that Faith No More song!

Indeed. Now I greatly anticipate touring schedules.
