Where you can be hit by lightning while eating brunch with me!

Tyler was in town from Wednesday until just this afternoon. Among the things we did: ate at DC's newish Shake Shack, went on an architecture tour of downtown and Foggy Bottom, went to Mikey's birthday celebration at Nine. Today we had brunch with Brian at the previously unknown to me Ulah Bistro, where the pancakes and bacon were pretty boss. Then we saw Tyler off to Union Station, for his next stop in New York.

Since then we have been sitting around half-watching The Two Towers while drinking cocktails and snacking on leftover avocado spread/magic guac from yesterday's taco night. Now there is a serious thunderstorm that we're watching. Our patio chairs almost blew over the edge of the balcony, but after rescuing them we are enjoying it. This is the second such storm to roll through in less than 24 hours, after the middle of the night thunder that dramatically woke me up at something like 4:00 a.m. Later we are probably going out, because the storm will have passed and it's always good to see folks.

Happy Independence Day to my fellow Yanks on LJ.

Ulah Bistro has been a longtime fav - had my birthday there several years ago. Try out the jambalaya if you like spicier things.

Going to try Shake Shack on Wednesday. God help my waistline.

Also trying to convince Michael to sit down and watch LOTR. He has yet to see any of them, so this may be a feat. We did get out to see Bridesmaids today, though.

I will definitely give the jambalaya a try next time.

You and your waistline will be fine as long as Shake Shack is only an occasional stop.
