mood: anxiousWoah oh oh, oh oh oh, oh oh oh
music: If you liked it then you shoulda poured a wine on it.

Although it probably hates me for all this neglect.

I live! I'm currently at stroszek2000's house doing my laundry because I truly don't have the physical energy to navigate my ridiculous home laundry arrangement. I fly out tomorrow morning for my visit to Ann Arbor, two nights with an as yet unnamed current student, then one night at a hotel before flying to Philadelphia for one night at the house of a current student there before one night at another hotel. And so on.

The first visit, to University of Minnesota, went well. I flew out Saturday morning, explored what I could of the campus (they have fireplaces in the student union!), and ate a lot to stay warm (right). Sunday I slept way late in my hotel room with five corners and then went to the department's reception for "admitted students of color." They fed us lots of awesome Chinese food. But the main event was Monday, where the student services lady and two faculty members buttered me up as much as possible, and I met some of the other prospective students, a sea of blond Vikings. All good times, and Minnesota is definitely in the realm of possibility still. And Minneapolis seems good, though it's very hard to get a read on a city in a short visit where you don't really know any natives.

I returned in one piece thanks only to Delta, who continues to heart me. They have bananas on flights temporarily! My flight landed at 10:45 Monday night, I got back to the house at 11:30, and slept until almost 1:00 p.m. the next day. Oops. I roused myself for work, worked a lot, and then had a nice welcome back to town in the form of dinner at Federal with Jason and Jason, and further drinks with Tyler when he showed up. Our server was genuinely amazed at our order (rare burgers and pastrami!), and the spring air was lovely, not least because of the dude who was chasing his recently towed car around the neighborhood. Then we took the party to my house for more beer.

Today work was just lame, and I don't even need to write about it except to say that 1.) being disrespected feels the same regardless of the circumstances, and 2.) I can be the fall guy when necessary; no skin off my back. Now I am desperately trying to get ready for traveling. As long as Delta can throw more bananas my way, I just might survive.
