Even though one list is far longer than the other, I still heart the library.

My personal ranking, from best to worst:

Books: (9)

Steven Johnson Everything Bad Is Good For You: How Today's Popular Culture Is Actually Making Us Smarter
Eugenie L. Birch and Susan M. Wachter, eds. Growing Greener Cities: Urban Sustainability in the Twenty-First Century
Molly H. Mullin Culture in the Marketplace: Gender, Art, and Value in the American Southwest
Jane Holtz Kay Asphalt Nation: How the Automobile Took Over America, and How We Can Take It Back
Barry Schwartz The Paradox of Choice: Why More Is Less
David Brooks Bobos in Paradise: The New Upper Class and How They Got There
Kathleen M. Barry Femininity in Flight: A History of Flight Attendants
Robert H. Kargon and Arthur P. Molella Invented Edens: Techno-Cities of the Twentieth Century
Adam Rome The Bulldozer in the Countryside: Suburban Sprawl and the Rise of American Environmentalism

The list is a tad shorter than last year, mainly due to all of the blogs and forums that catch my reading attention on the internets. But at least I integrated some non-egghead-academic-press titles into my reading this year; it made reading much less intense. FWIW, I also enjoyed all of the books except the last one, which was basically a dissertation not ready to be made into a book but was anyway.

Movies: (30)
All About Eve
The Godfather*
Volver
Charlie Wilson's War
Notes on a Scandal
The Dark Knight
Office Space*
Street Fight
Atonement
Gosford Park
Juno
Milk
Napoleon Dynamite
Trainspotting*
Thumbsucker
Burn After Reading
Junebug
Last Tango in Paris
The Big Lebowski*

L'Iceberg
Flightplan
Get Smart
Mulholland Drive

*Yes, I really never saw these until 2008.

Only 7 of these were actually released in 2008, and I only saw six of them in theaters. Thus Netflix was my savior this year, along with STNMC. I would say that unlike my book list, the bottom six were absolutely not worth watching and I kind of regret the time I spent on them. And the top six are among the best I've ever seen; there's a reason why so many people can quote from them.
